Manuscript Submission

SYMPOSIUM welcomes contributions pertinent to modern literatures originating in languages other than English. Research on authors, themes, periods, genres, works, and theory, often through comparative studies, is regularly featured.

Recent issues include peer-reviewed essays on works by Jorge Luis Borges, Bertolt Brecht, Mikhail Bulgakov, Miguel de Cervantes, Denis Diderot, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Paloma Diaz-Mas, Assia Djebar, Umberto Eco, Franz Kafka, Francis Ponge, and Leonardo Sciascia. Although articles are primarily in English, some issues include discussions of works in the original language.

Please send three copies of submissions to:

Essays must be prepared according to the MLA Style Manual (3rd ed.) and should be 15-25 double-spaced pages in length (3750-6250 words). Essays in languages other than English must be accompanied by a short paragraph in English describing their contents. The editorial board will not consider essays submitted simultaneously to other journals. In accordance with our blind peer review process, the author’s name should not appear on the manuscript; any references to the author’s previous work should be in the third person. Please confirm that manuscripts have been submitted solely to Symposium.

Decisions are typically reached within 8-12 weeks; articles are usually published within 6-9 months of acceptance.
