Perspectives on Political Science:
Manuscript Submission

SCOPE

Perspectives on Political Science publishes articles about political ideas and theories, and encourages submissions from all disciplines that relate to the study of politics. For example, essays may discuss an idea in political philosophy as it relates to contemporary culture and political issues. Symposia are published from time to time on educational matters of interest to political scientists. Perspectives on Political Science also publishes two kinds of reviews: review essays are comparative overviews of appropriate literature on a significant theme; and book reviews are timely critiques of recent publications addressing political theory.

MANUSCRIPT STYLE AND PREPARATION

Manuscript length should be between 4,000 and 6,000 words and should not exceed 8,000 words. All manuscripts must be typed and double-spaced throughout, including notes, on 8 x 11 inch paper. Cover sheet information should include the title of the article and the names of the authors with their academic titles, institutional affiliations, mailing and e-mail addresses, and phone and fax numbers. Short article titles are preferred; avoid superfluous phrases. Articles are frequently improved by the judicious use of subheads. Please include a 100-word abstract and 3–5 keywords with your article.

All quotations and references to research results or scholarly findings must be cited in notes at the end of the manuscript, according to chapters 16 and 17 in The Chicago Manual of Style (15th edition, revised 2003). No bibliography is necessary; please include full citation information for each source at its first mention in the notes, and cite it with surname, title, and page number for all subsequent references (as described in section 16.3 of CMS). Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the material submitted. Incorporate explanatory notes into the text whenever possible. Tables, graphs, and figures should be placed on individual pages.

MANUSCRIPT REVIEW AND EDITING PROCESS

Manuscripts that are within the scope of the journal are sent anonymously to two referees. Each published author receives two complimentary copies of the issue in which his or her article appears and online access to the article in digital form. Heldref reserves the right to copyedit all accepted articles, and retains the copyright of all published materials.

BOOK REVIEWS AND REVIEW ESSAYS

Perspectives on Political Science solicits well-written reviews of books covering a range of perspectives on political thought. Review essays that cover several related books inside a wider discussion of their subject matter are encouraged. Whether you have a book in mind or not, please write the managing editor to get more information about the review process. If you know what book you would like to review, please send a query before you begin writing. Book reviews should be 450 to 550 words, review essays 2,500 to 3,000. Heldref Publications retains the right to copyedit book reviews, and maintains copyright to all published material.
