The Journal of Social Psychology:
Manuscript Submission
The Journal of Social Psychology publishes original empirical research in all areas of basic and applied social psychology. Preference will be given to manuscripts that report laboratory or field research in core areas of social and organizational psychology including (but not limited to) the self, attribution theory, attitudes, social influence, consumer behavior, decision making, groups and teams, stereotypes and discrimination, interpersonal attraction, prosocial behavior, aggression, organizational behavior, leadership, and cross-cultural studies.
To submit the initial version of your manuscript for possible publication in the journal, follow the guidelines below.
- 1. Manuscripts should be 1,2509,000 words accompanied by an abstract of 100120 words. A manuscript of 500 words or fewer with no figures, tables, appendixes, or heads may be submitted as a Note. Manuscripts longer than 9,000 words should be submitted to Genetic, Social, and General Psychology Monographs.
2. Manuscripts should adhere to the style and conventions of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th edition. The checklist on pp. 379382 might be helpful. English-as-second-language authors should have a fluent U.S. English speaker review their manuscripts before submission.
3. Manuscripts should be double-spaced in MS Word files with 8.5 x 11 in. (22 x 28 cm) page setup and 1 in. (2.5 cm) margins. Use 10-point Times font.
4. First, in a cover letter, place any author identification; the corresponding author's regular addresses, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail addresses; the title (indicating any previous incarnation's 17-0n-nnn); and the names and departmental affiliations of all authors at the time of the research. Second, prepare an abstract and a list of key words (even for Notes; see Step 5 below). Third, in a single word-processing file, place the main text without any author identification (except in cites and References as necessary) and then any appendixes, tables, figures, and equations (in that order))all in the same file.
5. For key words, go to http://www.heldref.org(Web site) > The Journal of Social Psychology > Key Words. Choose or create the 35 terms that best classify your subject (or create your own).
6. When reporting a mean, always include its standard deviation. When reporting a regression analysis, always include its full correlation matrix. When reporting an inferential finding, always include a relevant effect size estimate. Include all degrees of freedom.
7. Any figures must meet the Figure Guidelines at http://www.heldref.org(Web site) > The Journal of Social Psychology.
8. Go to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jsp (Web site), Create Account if you don't have one, Log In, click Author Center, and follow the steps under Author Resources. Copy your cover letter, abstract, and key words from your computer's word-processing program and then paste them into the appropriate MC fields. For a blind review, do not upload any manuscript text e-file that includes author identification.
To submit a revision of a manuscript that the journal last reviewed as a hardcopy, follow the instructions above but indicate the original manuscript's number in both your new cover letter and your new title. For example, if your last version was a hardcopy, and its number was 17-04-123, then your cover letter should include a line saying, "RE: 1st MC revision of hardcopy 17-04-123," and your new title in MC should be in the form old title's text (1st MC revision of hardcopy 17-04-123). For the new revision, MC will assign you a new number, which you should use from then on (while also noting the earlier hardcopy's number) in all communications about it. Also, to enable the journal to compare your revision to your last hardcopy version, give an e-file of the last hardcopy version a name in the form hardcopy 17-04-123 and upload it into the MC folder Supplementary Files For Review as a Supplementary File.
To find the status of a manuscript that you have submitted through Manuscript Central, go to: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jsp (Web site), Log In, select Author Center, look at the step-wise list under My Manuscripts, and click on the items until you find your manuscript's description and status. (For help, click Get Help Now.) To find the status of manuscripts submitted otherwise, e-mail soc@heldref.org with Subject: "SOCSI" manuscript-number last-name.
Our editorial board reviews each manuscript in a peer-review process that should take 68 months, not including any times of revision by the author. All accepted manuscripts will be edited to meet APA and Heldref styles.
Each author of an accepted manuscript will get two copies of the issue in which his or her manuscript appears and permission to reproduce additional copies of it. The author may buy reprints through Heldref Publications (202-296-6267). |
