Journal of Motor Behavior:
Manuscript Submission
The Journal of Motor Behavior, a multidisciplinary journal of movement neuroscience, publishes articles that contribute to a basic understanding of motor control. Articles from different disciplinary perspectives and levels of analysis are encouraged, including neurophysiological, biomechanical, electrophysiological, psychological, mathematical and physical, and clinical approaches. Applied studies are acceptable only to the extent that they provide a significant contribution to a basic issue in motor control. Of special interest to the Journal are those articles that attempt to bridge insights from different disciplinary perspectives to infer processes underlying motor control. Those approaches may embrace postural, locomotive, and manipulative aspects of motor functions, as well as coordination of speech articulators and eye movements. Articles dealing with analytical techniques and mathematical modeling are welcome.
In addition to reports of original research, the Journal encourages theoretical and review articles and publishes notes and comments devoted to replications, criticisms, replies, or shorter articles presenting new and stimulating ideas. The journal will entertain proposals from guest editors who would like to devote all or part of one issue to a group of papers concerned with a common theme. Occasionally, there is a Letters to the Editors section for brief and informal statements on issues of concern to the readership.
The Journal also publishes Rapid Communications, short (up to four pages, including references, figures, and tables) articles that showcase exciting new findings. Articles for that section must be in the appropriate format.
Submission procedures
All original, revised, and accepted manuscripts, tables, and figures should be submitted electronically (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/heldref/jmbv).
Please note: Manuscript Central does not accept documents (articles, reviews) prepared in Word 2007. Use the "Save As" function in Word to save your Word 2007 documents in an earlier version of Word before uploading them on the Manuscript Central site. Manuscripts should be typed (no more than 12 characters per in., i.e., 10-point type) double-spaced throughout and should strictly adhere to the conventions of style and format described in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (2001; available at university libraries or from the APA, P.O. Box 92984, Washington, DC 20090-2984). The title page of the manuscript must be double-spaced. Include on the title page a 44-character running head and a list of four or five key words or phrases to be used by bibliographic services. The Abstract should be no longer than 120 words.
Mathematical equations
It is important that manuscripts containing mathematical notation adhere to the APA standards for the reporting of such material.
An address where the primary author can be contacted, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address must be provided on the title page of the manuscript.
The editorial office will acknowledge receipt of the manuscript as well as handle all future correspondence with the author.
Review procedures
All submissions are subject to review by two reviewing editors and by an executive editor, who makes the final decision concerning publication. Authors will receive copies of all reviews along with an action letter from the executive editor.
Figures
Figures must be black and white, unless the authors wish to print the figures in color. Color figures will be printed at the authors' expense. In the figures, the width of all lines, including axes and ticks, should be no less than 1 point. Font sizes, symbols, dashes, and dots in dotted lines should be large enough and spaced apart sufficiently so that they will be readable when reduced 50%. Do not use gray screens or colors; instead use dots, lines, cross-hatching, or solid white or black to differentiate columns. Do not box figures: The publisher places a box around the figure. Figures meeting standards of at least 600 dpi are acceptable; dot matrix plotted figures are not. Failure to adhere to the prescribed standards will delay publication. Authors will be asked to redo figures if the figures are deemed unsuitable for publication.
There is no cost to contributors, except for reprints, which contributors may order at their own expense.
Correspondence may be faxed to (202) 296-5149, e-mailed to jmb@heldref.org, or mailed to Betty S. Adelman, PhD, Managing Editor, Journal of Motor Behavior, Heldref Publications, 1319 Eighteenth Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036-1802. |
