The Clearing House. Deadline: March 1, 2008
Innovative Practices in Technology Integration
The Clearing House offers informative, practical articles on teaching and administration in middle schools and junior and senior high schools. In peer-reviewed articles, educators report their successes in teaching as well as present articles on administrative procedures, school programs, and teacher education for the secondary level.
The Clearing House will be publishing a special edition on the theme of integrating educational technology into the classroom. Although the primary focus of The Clearing House is on middle school and high school classrooms, articles from across the K–12 continuums will be considered.
Research on the use of technology in schools has revealed that many schools have yet to successfully integrate technology into teaching and learning, despite much higher levels of Internet and computer access. Research also shows that a “New Digital Divide” has emerged. This new divide refers not to the gap between those who have access versus those who do not have access, but rather to the growing gap between teachers’ and students’ knowledge of current and emerging technologies. This new divide needs to be addressed through a focus on school policies, staff development, and classroom practices that will lead to an increase in teachers’ knowledge of educational technology and its application in the classroom. This special issue of The Clearing House will explore the integration of technology into K–12 teaching and learning through an examination of challenges and best practices in policy administration, staff development, and classroom practices related to teaching and learning with technology.
We encourage elementary, middle school, and secondary school teachers and administrators and professors of education to submit proposals of 200–300 words to Dr. John Cowan, Sacramento State University (cowanj@csus.edu) by March 1, 2008. The proposal should focus on the integration of technology into K–12 education and identify one of the aforementioned areas of focus (policy, staff development, classroom practices). Final papers of 2,500–3,000 words will be due by June 6, 2008. The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed., University of Chicago Press, 2003, should be used as a style reference in preparation of the manuscripts.
